Air Bags & Safety?

Am I the only one to complain that my airbags didn't deploy at the time of my accident? On 07-06-07 while traveling in my White 1997 Toyota Tercel at approximately 35 p.m.h , I crashed into a vehicle in front of me , they never deployed , and to my knowledge were never deactivated to where I knew that they wouldn't deploy on me. Thank god I was wearing my seatbelt! There was gasoline leaking everywhere and the carburetor was cracked in half. The car is creamed ,its totaled. Why is it that they never deployed?
